| Review: | It's a fight for every claim I've had MetLife for five years and only needed benefits for cleaning and xrays for the first four years. In my fifth year, as my old childhood fillings are failing and separating from my teeth (leaving them dangerously prone to cracking) I needed filling removal and a crown and root canal. MetLife denied the claim for the crown saying there was not enough proof the tooth was compromised enough for a crown. (Say what? Uncompromised teeth don't normally need root canals.) In my sixth year, same thing. Needed another crown and root canal. Same denial of claim. Then came the kicker: only coverage for 1 crown every 60 months! Lousy $2000 a year benefit pays for virtually nothing. A root canal is over $1000 and a crown is over $1000! Even with my $2000 maximum, I only got back $800 last year from MetLife after paying out almost $3000. This year looks to be the same. My friend has Aetna and has needed the same work as I have. Hers has been fully covered even out of network. I'm going to inquire of my company to see if they can get something better than MetLife. I've had to take money from my 401K to pay for my dental care. Comments [ 1 ] |

| Review: | In Network Provider Scam Gave a periodontist in network. The dentist had another dentist in his practice. Made the appointment and office made appt. with other dentist in office. When bill submitted, Metlife said, Network dentist goes with "Dentist Only", not the practice. Had to pay over $1,000. Just called, for another periodontist in network. There are just two. Guess which one. You guessed it, the one that WASN'T in the network when I filed the claim. They told me that they can drop a dentist from the network the day, you go there..so you must CHECK right before you go to make sure this dentist is still in network. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Worst dental insurance ever They play tricks. never pay what they should. Scam!!! Stay away from them. In my coverage table, crown is covered. When I did it, they refused to pay for it. Instead, they want to pay for alternate materials which most dentists no longer used (cheapest ones). Customer service is horrible, rude and careless. What a shame. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Prepare to spend hours on forms Even with the minimal coverage provided by MetLife Dental, you would be amazed at the paperwork involved and hours spent to have the insurance pay for claims that are literally under $100. On most occasions I had to submit the paperwork several times - and I'm just talking copies of receipts and EOBs from BC/BS - for them to pay their fair share. My dentist will not file supplemental insurance paperwork, and now I know why - they don't have the time. Trust me, if you just have routine work, and don't really expect major issues, this is not worth the time and money. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Even their top plan pays only for cleaning I paid for their best policy but this year all claims were denied 1) My wifes partial fell apart. Replacement was $1800.00 but the "benefit plan" paid $0, because her missing teath (and the reason she got the original denture (paid for by a previous insurance company) was: "pre-existing condition" (missing teeth) 2) Second claim for 3 crowns ($2800.00) all denied because Metlife they didnt like the state of my wifes gums. Dental insurance seems to have gone the way of Wall Street (fraudulent rips offs) Recommendation: cancel your dental plan and get better work done in Mexico for 1/3 the cost. Thats what I have done. Issue with who is legally responsible for daughter's insurance- both parents work for same company--both insured by metlife--parents are divorced. | Review: | Metlife refuses to pay claims other than cleanings I've been fighting with this outfit for month's to get them to cover 2 crowns for my wife's teeth. They've asked for more information, but keep denying they were "medically necessary". | Review: | Breach of Contract I have Metlife dental coverage. They are refusing to pay their share of a crown I had put on one of my molars. The crown was needed because my tooth was cracked in several places. There are pictures from my dentist to prove it. Metlife claims that the crown was not covered because I didn’t show that the cracks occurred "during the act of chewing". Their benefits description states that crowns are indeed covered, and yet the same benefits description says nothing about a chewing-related caveat.
