First I signed up for the plan from Cigna, but then discovered that the "rate" sheet that I was provided prior to purchase is merely an "example" of prices. The actual discount is about $10 per service. Then I switched to OptumHealth Allies because they provided an actual rate sheet for my dentist. This, however, turned out to be false. After several hours spent on the phone and internet with dentalplans.com, OptumHealth Allies, and United Health Care (the real owner of the contract), I learned that the rates provided to me were substantially lower than the rates provided to the dentist. I cancelled the worthless policy and will never look back. Unless you plan to have major dental surgery and your dentist is on the approved list, don't waste your money on this "discount" garbage.

January 15th, 2010		 I'm sorry "Duke" did not have a satisfactory experience with the OptumHealth Allies discount program. To clarify, OptumHealth Allies is NOT insurance. We are a UnitedHealth Group Company, but we are a non-insurance option. Our program provides typical discounts of 10-35% on dental care from a network of participating providers. All expenses are paid by the member; the discount is applied at the time of service.

Our program is separate and different from UnitedHealthcare dental insurance plans, although many of the same dentists participate in both the insured plans and the discount plan.
